Don’t miss this year’s exciting faculty concert for Strings the Thing on Thursday, July 20th at 7pm at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church (2091 Gordon Dr, Kelowna).
Strings the Thing is an annual summer strings camp that takes place in the Okanagan, and one of the highlights is the faculty concert which features chamber music by the string teachers and includes some of the more advanced students at the camp. This years faculty include Violinists Sandra Wilmot, John Suderman and Calvin Dyck, Violist Ashley Kroecher, and Cellists Martin Kratky and Joel Stobbe.
The program includes a wide variety of entertaining classical music including music by Haydn, Piazzolla, Schubert and Vivaldi. Calvin Dyck will be featured on a virtuosic “Ferdinand the Bull” for Speaker and solo violin, while Martin Kratky and Ashley Kroecher will perform Tango La Calle by Piazzolla.
Outstanding young cellists Lukas Nicolenco and Ben Barbaza will be featured on the “Double Cello Concerto” by Vivaldi, and Joel Stobbe will conduct an ensemble of Faculty plus advanced students in two movements from the Dvorak Serenade. Other musical highlights include “Shore and Polska” from the Danish String Quartet, the Handel/Halvorsen “Passacaglia”, and an arrangement of the famous “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
